Detection of damage to rolling element bearings by frequency analysis.
Nomination for the Hermes Award 2004
Launched this year by the HANNOVER FAIR, the Award’s prize money of EUR 100,000 places it amongst the largest technology awards in the world. After more than 100 applications from ten countries were screened by an independent panel of experts the top 5 were nominated by an international jury.

efector octavis won 'Leonards Trophy 2003' in the category 'Best components and automatism periphery'. This prize is awarded on the exhibition Automation Optimation Europe in Paris.
Detection and Monitoring
The compact bearing monitor analyses the vibration signals in accordance with the frequency analysis method. A micromechanical accelerometer acts as the sensing element. The unit no. VB1001 monitors up to two different rolling element bearings. The unit no. VE1001 can be used for monitoring up to twenty different frequencies.
Reacting in time
Damage to rolling element bearings is detected before it arises. The bearing monitor sets the switching output 1 and indicates damage progress with yellow LEDs. The operator is able to take preventive action.
Progressive damage to rolling element bearings is signalled via the second switching output and is indicated via the bearing monitor’s red LEDs. The operator should react at once. |

Parameter setting
The basic parameters are set at the PC. Data such as type of bearing, rotational speed and input / output function are transmitted to the efector octavis via the RS 232 interface. The reference conditions of the machine are taught-in after mounting by pressing a pushbutton on the sensor.
