The communication of an AS-i network can be considerably improved by the connection of a suitable terminating resistor. It is composed of an inductance, resistor and capacitor.
Thus reflections on the cable are minimised, safety and the signal-to-noise ratio are increased.
Another advantage is that an AS-i network with more than 100 metres of cable length is made possible. As flexible tree, ring, star and line topologies are possible with AS-i, there are no clear rules as regards the possible cable length. Empirical measurements with different arrangements have shown, however, that up to 200 m are possible in many networks.
The bus termination is an entirely passive interface, easily mounted at the end of the cable furthest away from the AS-i power supply.
