Improved data transfer, diagnosisvia optimised bus termination
- Permanent monitoring of the message quality, display of critical states by LED “traffic lights”.
- AS-i tuner: Active bus termination with teach-in phase for adaptation to AS-i networks.
- Protection rating IP 67 for direct installation in the field at the end of the AS-i cable.
- Use in conjunction with repeaters possible, overall length up to 750 m.
- Easy mounting with flat or round cable lower part.
Introduction The communication of an AS-i network can be considerably improved by the connection of a suitable terminating resistor. It is composed of an inductor, resistor and capacitor. This leads to the effect that an AS-i network can be operated with a cable length of up to 100 m. As flexible tree, ring, star and line topologies are possible with AS-i, there are no clear rules as regards the possible cable length.
Empirical measurements with different arrangements have shown that up to 250 m are possible in many networks. To ensure optimum effect, the AS-i tuner is mounted at the end of the AS-i cable which is furthest away from the AS-i power supply. The AS-i tuner has a microprocessor which performs a quality assessment of the AS-i network setting the impedance at one press of the button.
Typical applications:
- Use at the end of a cable if more than 100 metres of AS-i cable are to be used
- In nested arrangements mounting furthest away from the AS-i power supply
- For increased safety with respect to interference in Safety at Work applications
- If incorrect messages occur frequently and thecause cannot be identified
- Extension of the AS-i cable with repeaters to up to750 metres between two slaves
