Introduction In the world of automation, controller E is the family name for AS-i masters with powerful integrated PLCs. As an additional interface, the Profibus gateway described here features an Ethernet interface with the CoDeSys Automation Alliance protocol. This allows programming of all connected controller E devices via a TCP/ IP connection from any location. The devices enable diagnosis via the integrated WEB server and at the same time the cyclical exchange of data via Profibus.
CoDeSys programming and visualisation tool All controller E devices from ifm can be programmed in programming languages to IEC61131-3 using this software. The AS-i systems of all connected controller E devices can be configured centrally.
Advantages and customer benefits:
• Safety at Work diagnosis The integrated diagnostic tool enables the detection of connected safety slaves and reading of additional information. This considerably simplifies finding of the triggering safety elements. • Local diagnosis Clearly visible status LEDs indicate important AS-i and Ethernet operating states. They can be seen from a distance and indicate the correct operation (green) or certain selected operating modes, e.g. projection mode (yellow) and faults such as missing slaves (red). The text display provides detailed information indicating the location of the fault and a clear fault number, simplifying the service. • AS-i to specification 3.0 As M4 masters the devices support the automatic exchange of data with all slaves to the AS-i specification 3.0. • PLC function / programming to IEC 61131-3 The programming environment CoDeSys includes the languages FBD, IL, LD, SFC and ST. Recipe management, data tracing and visualisation are part of the software as well as the convenient configuration of the AS-i master. A complete I/O check is possible via a graphical user interface. • Freely programmable display The full graphic backlit display can be freely programmed by the user. Thus plant-specific messages, temperatures, levels, etc. can be visualised.
Application The AS-i controller E family can be used in a wide range of different applications. It is indispensable wherever decentralised I /Os, modular design and high performance in the gateway are important. These modules are firmly established in conveying, special purpose machinery, handling technology and food industry. Profibus DP is used as fieldbus protocol for the exchange of data with higher level PLCs. At the same time the widely used Modbus/TCP protocol can be used for plant visualisation and diagnosis.
