			Manufacturer-independent software for programming and commissioning. Introduction In plant automation the software is becoming more and more important. The target of an easy-to-use software package for the complete operation of all control functions has been implemented as follows: CoDeSys includes the complete programming package according to IEC 61131-3 with the languages function block diagram (FBD), ladder diagram (LD), instruction list (IL), structured text (ST) and sequential function chart (SFC). A bus configuration tool which projects and monitors masters and connected slaves is integrated into the same surface. The visualisation as the third CoDeSys component enables the user to quickly create his own screens with objects and variablecontrolled animation. The variables have the same format as with IEC 61131-3 programming. CoDeSys Automation Alliance is a hardware-independent software platform from the company 3S. The cooperation of many renowned companies provides the possibility by simply integrating new unit drivers to program several hardware units with one software environment and to configure the connected field buses. Advantages and customer’s benefits Universal application for ifm controllers The software can be used for all controller variants. Independent of the field bus used the connection to the PC or notebook is made via the serial RS-232 interface. System configurator The system configurator shows the design of the bus topology in a tree structure. All connected active (slaves) and passive units (e.g. repeaters, power supplies) can be integrated and documented. The bus configuration is completely recorded and documented in one place. Online diagnosis In the online mode the states of the respective master and the connected slaves are displayed. During commissioning the inputs can be checked as regards correct wiring and function and the outputs can be set for test purposes. plc functions With the CoDeSys software the plc function in the controllere receives an aid for fast programming in a text or graphic-oriented language. In the online mode the program networks display the logic states and values without delay. In case of program changes only the changed modules are transmitted via the function ”Online changes” while the machine can continue to run. Visualisation The visualisation as integral component of the programming software enables the user to freely design his own user surfaces, graphics, and images which can easily be animated. External bitmaps, for example plant overviews, can also be integrated. Thus the user receives an easy-to-use, inexpensive alternative to expensive visualisation packages.
