"365 Landmarks in the Land of Ideas" is a project by the initiative "Germany - Land of Ideas".
The idea "Sensors to Melt Away" by ifm electronic and the Chocolate Museum Cologne convinced the jury. It awarded both companies with the title "Selected Landmark in the Land of Ideas 2007".
Mr Felix von Schmeling, Director of Deutsche Bank and main sponsor, presents the award by Federal President Horst Köhler to Curator Maria Mrachacz and Martin Buck, Managing Director of ifm electronic gmbh.
The nationwide competition "365 Landmarks in the Land of Ideas" is an initiative by the Federal Government and the German industry, continued in 2007 - due to the huge success in 2006 - in co-operation with Deutsche Bank as exclusive project partner. The competition is under the patronage of Federal President Horst Köhler.
Public or private organisations, institutions, companies or research institutes committed to innovation and inventiveness had the opportunity to apply as "landmark" by November 2006.
What does liquid chocolate smell like? What does it look like when chocolate bars are packed and how do you obtain the characteristic creaminess?
All this can be enjoyed at the Chocolate Museum in Cologne - with all five senses. On two floors you can see, smell, taste, hear and feel how cocoa beans turn into a chocolate bar. The fact that state-of-the-art ifm sensors are used in many production process is anything but boring for the visitors:
They can see how photoelectric sensors help with packing the bars, how diagnostic sensors listen to the active drive of the conche and how cylinder sensors feel the correct function of the tie rod cylinder at the truffle station. During more than 4500 guided tours per year the Chocolate Museum Cologne presents tasty chocolate and modern technology as a sensual experience.
 
Sensuality rediscovered:
ifm electronic and the Chocolate Museum were a "Selected Landmark in the Land of Ideas" on 22 May 2007. The presentation of the honour board and the certificates took place in the presence of many press representatives in the Chocolate Museum Cologne on 10 May 2007.
