AS-Interface (AS-i), the world-wide wiring system for sensors and actuators, is setting new standards in user-friendliness and diagnostic capabilities. According to the motto ”saving cost and reducing wiring complexity” AS-i has gained world-wide acceptance on the first level.
The yellow flat cable allows cost-effective connection of all participants. The standardised isolation displacement technology ensures fast, cost-effective mounting without cutting and wiring the individual cores.
Connection to the control level is effected by AS-i backplane masters or the Controllere family. There are gateways for many fieldbuses such as Profibus-DP, Ethernet, Devicenet, CANopen.
A maximum of 124 analogue signals or 434 binary signals can be connected to an AS-i master. Slave participants of various designs are available for the control cabinet and field ranges.
All bus participants with a power of smaller than 5 watts can be supplied with 24V directly from the bus cable. For higher currents there is an additional black flat cable.
Intelligent components from sensors to pneumatic modules with bus capability (AS-i AirBox) are a sign of a trend towards complete bus integration. Decentralised mounting close to the actuators is possible for the AS-i motor starters.
